Periodontology

What is it about ?
Periodontics is specialized in the treatment of the parondont, that is to say the tissues of support of the tooth: gum, bone, cementum (which surrounds the root) and ligaments (which connect the tooth and the bone).

Current infections treated

Two common types of infections can occur: gingivitis and periodontitis. It is very important to consult your dentist when in doubt, as gingivitis affecting only the gingiva can be treated, but periodontitis affecting the whole periodontium can only be stabilized.

What are the symptoms ?

The symptoms are different depending on the infection:

Frequent bleeding during brushing as well as gum sensitivity and redness are signs of gingivitis;
In contrast, periodontal disease is detected by tooth loosening, abnormal tooth mobility, and hypersensitivity to the neck of the tooth (where the enamel is the thinnest).

What are the causes ?

Gingivitis and periodontitis are both inflammatory diseases of infectious origin, caused by bacterial plaque accumulating daily in the teeth.
Other causes are also considered as a risk factor in the development of periodontal diseases:

the tobacco
a deficient immune system
heredity
the stress
taking certain medications
